A Journey Through Temples, Mountains & Inner Landscapes

Following the Goddess:

A land where prayer flags trace the wind, where ancient temples hold centuries of devotion, and where the Himalayas rise in quiet, unwavering presence. This is a journey designed not only to explore, but to gather, to create, and to move gently through a culture rich with ritual, craft, and spirit.

We begin in Kathmandu, where the rhythm of the city unfolds between sacred sites and everyday life. We walk among pilgrims at Swayambhunath and Boudhanath Stupa, wander the artisan streets of Patan, and step into the living heritage of Bhaktapur, where time feels beautifully suspended.

Timed with Nepal’s sacred calendar, we are invited into the vibrant energy of Dashain, the celebration of the Goddess Durga, the embodiment of cosmic energy. During this special time, homes glow with candlelight, marigold garlands line the streets, and blessings are shared in quiet, meaningful ritual.

Among Kathmandu’s many sacred sites, our path turns gently toward the temples of the feminine divine, places where devotion feels both ancient and alive. We spend time in the presence of Durga, the fierce and protective mother; Kali, the dark, transformative force who dissolves what no longer serves; and seek darshan with the Kumari, the living embodiment of the goddess, quietly residing within the heart of the city. Here, amidst incense, bells, and whispered prayers, we are invited into deeper currents of power, protection, surrender, and rebirth, echoing both through the culture of Kathmandu and the inner landscapes we carry within.

From the valley, we journey to Pokhara, a place of stillness and reflection at the edge of the Himalayas. Here, the Annapurna Range rises beyond the glassy surface of Phewa Lake, and the pace softens into something more spacious. Mornings begin with mountain light, afternoons unfold along the water, and one of our dedicated workshop days opens into a more expansive, intuitive way of creating, held by sky, lake, and silence.

We continue into the lush lowlands of Chitwan National Park, where jungle rhythms replace the hum of the city. Time spent at an ethical elephant sanctuary and along the river offers a deeper connection to the natural world, quiet, grounding, and profoundly moving.

Returning to Kathmandu, we gather once more to complete our journals and reflect on all that has unfolded, pages layered with memory, texture, and place.

Join our Nomadic Atelier in which Kirsten Stingle will teach assemblage book arts in order to creatively incorporate experiences and stories into a sculptural travel tome that inspires and reminds us of the soul expanding magic of travel.

Kirsten will teach book making techniques, the art of layering and collage, mark making with thread, photo transfer, stencil techniques and assemblage of found objects in 2-D and 3-D forms.  Her teaching structure is kept flexible to invite participants to individualize their journals with other medias that interest them such as paints, pastels or colored pencil.

Moreover, this unique trek is structured so that participants not only learn from Kirsten, but also directly from local artisans.  We will connect with the culture and traditional craft techniques through hands-on workshops. Kirsten will then guide participants to incorporate these processes and experiences into their sculptural travel journal.

Kirsten Stingle is an internationally, award winning artist known for her narrative sculptures, combining ceramics, mixed media and assemblage.  But over the past ten years, Kirsten has been making personal assemblage journals and boxes to artistically document her travels.  In this workshop, she will be sharing her mixed media skills and techniques, guiding artists to engage in the wonders around them and creatively incorporate them in a sculptural book of memories and experiences.

A Journey Through Temples, Mountains and Inner Landscapes . . .

We begin in Kathmandu, a city layered in time, where ancient and the everyday move side by side. Temples rise from the streets without announcement. Carved wooden windows lean gently over narrow lanes. Incense drifts through the air, mingling with the myth of footsteps, voices, bells.

Here, the sacred is not separate, it lives in the details. We wander through ancient squares where history gathers in stone, pause at shrines where offerings are made in quiet devotion, and move through neighbourhoods where artisans continue practices passed down through generations.

There is a feeling here of being both inside and outside of time.

It is in Kathmandu where we encounter DASHAIN - the act of seeing and being seen.

Perhaps we pause one morning, to make offerings at a local temple, a gesture of presence, intention and arrival.

Our first evening, we gather for a WELCOME DINNER, a soft landing, a first weaving of the circle we will carry with us.

KATHMANDU

From the layered rhythm of the city, we travel by a short flight toward water, sky and mountains.

Pokhara opens. the air shifts - clearer - lighter. The pace slows. The horizon expands.

Set beside still waters, with the Himalayas rising quietly in the distance, this is the place of reflection - both literal and inward.

Mornings arrive softly here. Light moves across the mountains. The day unfolds without urgency.

This is where we gather to create. Over four workshop says with Kirsten Stingle, we enter into a deeper dialogue with our work. Inspired by what we have seen, temples, textures, fragments of rituals and by what begins to surface within.

There is space here, to follow an idea, to sit with uncertainty, to allow something unexpected to take form.

Beyond the studio, there are quiet paths to wander, waterside moments, and small encounters that arrive when you are not looking for them.

POKHARA

From mountain to jungle, we move to a different world. Chitwan is lush, expansive, alive - a landscape shaped by river, forest, and the unseen movements within it.

The air is warmer here. The sounds shift, birds, insects, rustling leaves and distant calls.

Days unfold in the rhythm of the land.

We venture into the park - not to seek but to witness. A glimpse of movement through tall grasses. A pause at the river’s edge.

The sense that something is always just beyond view.

There is humility here - a reminder of scale, presence, of coexistence.

Evening soften into stillness - firelight, conversation, reflections.

It is here in this more elemental space, that something settles.

And in that setting, we begin to close the circle.

CHITWAN

We return to Kathmandu - but not as we were. The city feels different noe, or perhaps we do.

Details once overlooked begin to reveal themselves - a carving, a gesture, a moment of stillness within the movement.

There is time here, to revisit a place that stayed with you, to wander without direction, to follow instinct rather than plan.

Evenings are left open - to discover a tucked away courtyard, to sit longer than expected at a table, to allow the city to offer something final or shop for something to bring back home.

Our final evening, we gather once more for a FAREWELL DINNER, a closing, a remembering, a honouring of all that has unfolded.

We leave Nepal though something of it travels with us.

A way of seeing. A way of noticing, a thread that continues both in and outside of our journals!

KATHMANDU
