Join Leighanna Light and myself on a 11 night/12 day art & travel experience exploring the people and culture of Morocco, including a mixed media workshop in Marrakech.
From the moment you step out of the airport, you will feel that exotic quality, a flutter in your heart, an excitement in your body and an awakening of your senses.
Fragrance lingers in the air, as you breathe you are aroused by the unfamiliar yet welcoming scents. As the sound of the call to prayer kisses your ear you will be swept away by the enchanting sound and part of your heart will never want to leave again. Your eyes will be delighted at the activating patterns and colours that will meet you on every turn on this captivating journey.

I am a passionate art instructor, thingmaker, bookmaker, figurative assemblage artist and recovering perfectionist! My background is in fine arts and photography and I’ve been teaching art workshops for the past 20 years at art retreats in the US. I develop my classes by playing, making a mess, making “mistakes” and I can’t think of any better way to live and make a living. I love to create, to hunt for things to create with & to share my creativity with others. It’s what I live for, it’s my oxygen.
I grew up in a small town in upstate New York and I have spent most of the past 20 years in New Mexico. I am so lucky to live in Taos, the mountains of Northern New Mexico, with my best friends Thomas, Peetie, Lily, Hairy B….and now Jessie. Sheesh, each year I keep adding more!

I first visited Morocco in January of 2024 and it rocked my world. I fell seriously in love with the people, the colors, the food, the architecture, the doors… so much beauty everywhere! On the trip home all I could do was plan my next trip, with hopes of sharing it with other like minded women! While on our journey in Morocco and Essouria we will create a gorgeous, non-traditional mixed media art book consisting primarily of painted and collaged canvas, metal & found objects. I can’t think of a better way to connect with the vibrant culture and colorful backdrops that are so distinctively Morocco! Using our book to document our journey, we will add tabs and a plethora of pockets to enshrine relics and ephemera collected during our adventures. I will share with you my favorite collage and surface design techniques using gesso, ink & paint to create beautiful textures, colors and surfaces. I will teach you how to create stunning metal transfers & designs, and offer a more permanent method for attaching metal without using glue. Your final book will be approximately 9” x 7” with at least 6 metal transfers, 20 writing surfaces and multiple pockets for memories that you have collected along the way. I cannot wait to be back in Morocco to share my process with you, I hope you can join us! There will be a private Facebook group available to those who register.

Day 1: Marrakech

If possible plan your arrival for late morning/early afternoon and where you will be met at the airport and transferred to our Riad where will will enjoy a welcome tea. After checking in, those that arrive early will embark on a escorted Medina wander.
Evening brings a beautiful Welcome Henna Dinner Party, where we will get to know each other and enjoy our first delicious Moroccan evening rooftop meal together. D
Day 2: Marrakech

BREAKFAST 8 AM | DEPART 9 AM
After breakfast it’s off for some adventuring! First we will visit immerse ourselves in the lush botanical garden of le Jardin Majorelle - a masterpiece by Jacques Majorelle. After lunch we will take a guided tour of the ancient medina and artisan souks.

After breakfast we will begin the our workshop in Marrakech with Leighanna Light. The workshop will begin at 12 - 6 PM with a break with refreshments.
BEFORE AND AFTER THE WORKSHOP THE TIME IS FREE TIME TO WANDER, GATHER OR SIMPLE RELAX.
DINNER DURING WORKSHOP DAYS DINNER WILL BE ON YOUR OWN.

After a beautiful sunrise and rooftop breakfast we will have a guided tour of the ancient Medina, ramparts and seaside. Salut Maroc for lunch then it will spend time working on our books until dinner.

After breakfast we wander to the fishing port to capture photos. After our time with fish & birds we will return to the riad to work on our books until lunch. The afternoon will be yours to fill however you feel called . . .wander, shop or simply be.

After breakfast this day will make our way back to Marrakech, we will stop at an Argan Cooperative - following lunch you will be transported to a Hammam & Massage to wash the sand away.
Following your spa you will be brought to the Riad to check in and have free time to relax.

You are required to get travel medical insurance, there are many companies but we use World Nomad.
Trip cancellation insurance strongly recommended.
Morocco can be overwhelming for the first time visitor. It is for the traveller who is open to new cultures, and is willing to have plans delayed, or a schedule which may shift. Flexibility is essential and participants should not be fearful travellers; being open to the diversity is all part of the experience and fun.
This is for the person who wants to travel to Morocco with the safety of a group; it is for the adventurer, the person who wants to feel all their senses in this amazing country.
Fitness level that enables you to walk around uneven alley ways in the old Medina, climb stairs nd get in and out of a transport van.
If you have specific allergies (i.e. peanuts, wheat, gluten, dairy, etc.), it will be harder, but not impossible, for you to find food that suits your needs. We are unable to cater to any specific dietary issues - you will need to manage this. All meals will have vegetarian courses.
Consult a doctor, nurse or health care provider, or visit a travel health clinic preferably six weeks before you travel. (side note: If you have any pending health concerns you should contact your health care provider prior to registration).
